Peacefully, with family by her side, on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010, at the Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton, in her 83rd year, Elda (nee Gowanlock) of Burgoyne. Loving wife of Grant. Loving mother of Brian, Jim and his wife Carol, Kevin and his wife Jacinta, and Gary and his wife Jackie. Proud Grandma of Tyler, Austin, Eric, Alexandra, Kara, Brittney, Steve, Matt, Zack and Natasha. Great-grandma of Landon and Griffin.
Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 25th, 2010. A funeral service will be conducted in the Knox Presbyterian Church, Burgoyne, on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Chuck Moon officiating.
Interment Burgoyne Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Knox Presbyterian Church, Burgoyne or Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. | |

My cousin Stan Cairns advised me this morning re Elda's passing. News like this is disturbing to say the least but if there ever was a Christian woman it was she. This is the time when the Christian belief is very uplifting and we can truly celebrate Elda's long and productive life.
Please accept our heart felt condolences Grant , and we ask that God will bless you in the days to come. Please pass on our feelings to your family as well.

Grant, Chuck, Jim, Kevin, Gary & families, we are so sorry to hear of Elda's passing. She was a vital member of the community of Burgoyne, always out & about, running up to the church or the mail box, but she alway had time for a wave across the road or a chat. Elda will be missed by all who knew her, cherish the memories.

It was with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Elda, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandma. A piece of Burgoyne heritage will be lost along with her. Elda was an abundant source of community history and always a happy heart. May you find peace in sharing your memories and know that she is always with you in you hearts.
God seen her getting tired,
A cure not meant to be,
So he wrapped his arms around her,
And whispered "Come with me."

Sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one. Elda was a beautiful person and will be greatly missed . Growing up as her neighbour was a great joy and truely an experience, I will never forget. When I talk to some of my family back home, Grant and Elda, still enter into the conversation, wondering how they are and the fun times that we had playing games with the boys in their yard. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. I will always remember Elda as a thoughtful and kind person who loved her family and her church. You could always count on her to answer a question for you. I will truly miss her sitting on her porch waving as we drove by. Burgoyne has lost an icon, it will never be the same when turning the corner to the farm, on behalf of the Steward and May Esplen family we are so sorry for your loss and may heaven shine brighter down upon us.

Grant, I was advised by Eleanor Ireland (nee Geddes) my sister that Elda had died the other day. I just wanted to pass on my sympathy to you and all of your family. I still remember Elda and how great a person she was and thankfully we were able to visit when you came to Ottawa. Take care and thinking of you.
